If you have not installed Diablo II Resurrected yet, depending on how you bought it you can first visit the Battlenet Game Installation Guide OR Steam Game Installation Guide
Click here to learn the differences between the Battle.net & Steam versions of the game Diablo II Resurrected.
Reimagined Launcher (Very Easy) Installs in Windows & automatically updates itself, available on Nexus Mods. With one-click it can find the latest version of Reimagined online too. Auto backup for your saved games.
Manually follow-the-steps (Easy/Hard): You will lookup your own installation directory & you'll be responsible for backing up your own saved games incase a crash occurs during a loading screen.
C: Drive is the most common install location. Yours may differ depending on your setup. Launcher finds them automatically.
Battle.net D2R Mod Files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\ReimaginedSteam D2R Mod Files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\ReimaginedSaved Game Files:
C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\ReimaginedThree
highly recommend watching Ben's video. The installation process is very simple.
1. In File Explorer, navigate to your Saved Game Files directory as listed above.
2. Go back one directory to the \Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\ folder which contains the saved games for each mod as shown in the picture below.

All Reimagined 3.x saved game versions will be in the ReimaginedThree folder.
3. As shown in the picture right click on the ReimaginedThree folder, select ‘Send to’ and choose Compressed (zipped) folder which copies the contents into a ZIP file. Rename the ZIP file to something memorable, and move it somewhere easy to remember (e.g. your desktop).

Remember to periodically create new ZIP saved game backups so that you don't lose progress in case of crashes. While playing the game, if your PC crashes while the game is writing to a saved game that game can become corrupt resulting in a “Failed to join game” message. The Reimagined Launcher is capable of backing up your saved games making this easier.
Instructions to install the Reimagined mod manually without using any launchers or assistive programs.
Step 1. Download the latest Reimagined Mod version from Nexus Mods.

Step 2. Navigate to your D2R Installation Directory and at the top left click in the blank space and right click to highlight the game's path. Then right click & click Copy as this information will be used in the step 4. Next open the folder called "mods". Your game's installed location will be different then in the picture.

Step 3. Inside the mods folder check for a previous Reimagined folder & if present delete it since you're about to install a new version. (right click, delete)

Step 4. Navigate to where you just downloaded the mod, by default files typically go into your “Downloads” folder. The new ZIP file that you just downloaded starts with the name: "D2R Reimagined" followed by a version number should be located here. The picture below shows Reimagined version 3.0.5 as an example.

Step 5. Right click the ZIP file & click Extract All

Show More Options to complete the above step.
Step 6. On this next box that pops right click the pathway & click Paste. Now the destination should be where you were earlier when you copied the path. Again your location will be different then the one in the picture below. Now click the Extract button and the Reimagined mod is now fully installed!

Step 7. Next we'll create a shortcut you can use to launch the mod. Go back to your game's installation (from Step 2) & Right click on D2R.exe and click Send to and then Desktop (Create Shortcut)

Show More Options to complete the above step.
Properties
-mod Reimagined -txt -mod Reimagined -txt -resetofflinemaps (OPTIONAL: This will reset your maps everytime you visit the character select screen)
Apply and then OK
Step 6. You can rename the shortcut to anything and then Click or Double-Click the shortcut to play the mod. Reimagined is now Installed and ready!
If you wish to manually install any of the 6 Customization Tweaks (2skill, Forced Terror Zones, RemoveAuraSounds, HDR Fix, Letterbox removal, splashcharm graphic removal) those files are also included inside the Beta Launchers ZIP file towards the top of this page for players that are manually installing their game. If you only want the 2Skill file, then just download the next file below instead.
Instructions to install the optional file that grants 2 skill points, 8 attribute points per level up. This file also makes walking speed = running speed.
Step 1. Scroll down on the Nexus website to the 2 Skill Points Per Level and download the file from Nexus Mods

Step 2. Navigate to where you just downloaded the file, by default files typically go into your “Downloads” folder. Right click the file and click Extract All

Step 3. Finally extract the file into the correct location, depending on if you bought the game using the Battle.net app OR on Steam. You can copy & paste the values below if your game is installed in one of those default locations.
Battle.net: C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\Reimagined\Reimagined.mpq\data\global\excel
Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\Reimagined\Reimagined.mpq\data\global\excel
You can click Browse & manually navigate to the excel folder if you've installed the game into a custom location.

Step 4. ClickReplace the file in the destination when prompted. This Replaces the old 1skill with the new 2skill file. Now it's installed!

Here are some common resolutions to frequent crashing we've encountered in bug reports across the Discord, Nexus and Reddit.
1. Reimagined 3.0+ is not compatible with saves from Reimagined 1.x.x, Reimagined 2.x.x, D2R vanilla, or other mods if the save file contains items. Trying to place them in the saves folder and use them will often cause the game to crash.
2. Classic characters cannot be created and are incompatible with the mod.
3. Change graphics option VFX Lighting Quality off from Ultra to High or Medium as it barely has any visual impact but kills game performance and causes crashing.
4. Cap your framerate to your monitors refresh rate and/or use Vsync.
5. Don't Alt + Tab, (click out of the screen if playing in windowed) the game doesn't enjoy being out of focus. You can try to mitigate this crash by limiting the Background FPS of D2R.exe via your GPU Control Panel. (The game still likes to crash anyways but the background FPS limit helps reduce the frequency.)
6. Don't equip items on Mercs with Chance to Cast a minion. (Reanimate is fine, it is specifically CTC that seems to cause issues.)
7. Change Power Settings from Performance to Balanced (Unintuitive but seems to work for some people.)
8. If you are using other mods, you can try disabling them to see if the crashes continue but if they edit itemstatcost.txt then disabling them will cause crashes anyways so pay attention to what you are doing and make backups before experimenting.
9. If you are making local mod edits, undo those edits or reinstall the mod fresh.
Using a Mod Manager allows you to easily install a variety of mods together (assuming they play nice) without having to know anything about modding.
Reimagined is packed full of expansive features and QOL updates, so installing extra mods isn't always necessary.
Check the list of Reimagined features below to see if a 3rd-party mod is still necessary.

DM on discord if you need further instructions/help
If you have questions about whether something is included in Reimagined, or would like to see something added, DM one of the Devs, or post in the suggestions-and-feedback channel of our discord channel.
A number of Mod Creators gave express permission to include their mod in Reimagined. Where this is the case credit is given on the Reimagined Nexus Mods page.
The below (non-exhaustive) list of mods are already functionally covered in Reimagined in some form:
New Content
Inventory
Items
Systems
Mercenaries
QOL
Monsters
Environment / UI
D2RLoader provides LAN TCP/IP support for Reimagined, including Reign of the Warlock (ROTW), without the former class and mechanic restrictions.
notice: D2RLoader is still in active development, so installation steps and configuration options may change in future updates.
Before you begin: Everyone joining the same TCP/IP game must use matching D2R, D2RLoader, and Reimagined compatibility-build versions.
Download the Reimagined compatibility build from Google Drive.
Important: The official Reimagined release on Nexus is not directly compatible with D2RLoader. Use the compatibility build linked above.
Download and extract the archive, then place the extracted Reimagined folder in:
Diablo II Resurrected\mods
Open the D2RLoader link, then download the latest release zip file.
After extracting the archive, move the d2rloader folder, D2RCore.dll, and D2RLoader.exe into the Diablo II Resurrected installation folder containing D2R.exe.
Open d2rloader\config\d2rloader.toml in a text editor and set Reimagined as the default mod:
default_mod = "Reimagined"
Save the file with Ctrl+S, close the editor, and launch the game by running D2RLoader.exe.
The game and loader are now ready. To play TCP/IP with friends over the internet, every player must join the same virtual LAN.
Download and install Radmin VPN, then turn it on.
Open the Network menu. Create a private network for your group, or select Join Network to connect to an existing one.
Example public network
Network name: D2RR TCP/IPPassword: DeckardLikesWine@69
Enter the details and click Join. Radmin VPN should display the shared network and its connected players.
From the character-selection screen, click TCP/IP at the bottom center.
Mismatched versions or files may cause connection failures, crashes, missing visuals, broken skills, or other unexpected behavior.
Using D2RLan and an older version of D2R (2.4 developer build), you can make direct connections with a vpn to play with friends.
The instructions will be expanded upon in the future.
1. Download D2RLan from the D2RModding site: https://www.d2rmodding.com/d2rlan

1a. Verify latest d2rlan version, if there is an update it will flash on the bottom left of the launcher. (v1.5.5 is the latest as of 8/25)

2. Install the MS .NET runtime

3. Run D2RLan
4. Install the TCP Files

5. Download and install Radmin VPN as it is the recommended vpn to use for this: https://www.radmin-vpn.com/
6. Download the reimagined_online zip found HERE
6a. optional revert of the inventory UI can be found here
7. unzip and drop the reimagined_online folder in “D2RLAN_CoreFiles\D2RLAN\D2R\Mods\"
7a. The zip may have 1 extra folder layer, in which case you want the reimaginedonline folder with the mpq folder in it ie “D2RLANCoreFiles\D2RLAN\D2R\Mods\reimagined_online\reimagined_online.mpq”

8. Restart the D2rLan Launcher and then select reimagined_online as the mod to use

8a. navigate to options - QOL options and change display mode to advanced. this will show enemy HP bars and resists and I highly recommend using it.

9. Launch the game, create a char, and select TCP/IP and then Host or Join.

9a. You can also copy over your settings.json and custom.key files from other save folders to the reimagined_online save folder in order to preserve your settings from other mods.
10. Use the IP provided by radmin VPN to join your friend.
TBD: Review beacon as well as provide more screenshots for radmin vpn usage.
